I want you to go over the scans from the Biohazard chambers on deck 15 and see if you can >come up with any abnormal readings." "Yes sir" Shran nodded to his senior officer, he walked over to a small area with a desk and a chair. Jared stopped and looked over the PADD quickly and noticed the symptoms were symptomatic of a flu like virus, elevated fever, high white cell count, body aches and upper respiratory inflammation. "Proceed nurse Felton but I want a follow-up done tommorrow morning." "Yes Doctor." She smiled at Shran. Jared held onto the PADD and said. This is our ACMO Shran Me'levtel, nurse Felton, Shran you will be seeing a lot of Clarice and Dr. Maybrey when he comes on duty. I'll introduce you then. Follow me." Shran would have done anything just to take a short break ~Thank you Por'nek~ he stood up from the table. Then he followed Jared to his office. Jared entered his office and walked to the desk and said. "Computer display scans from Biohazard containment facilities on Deck 15 for today from the instant beam-in commenced until the system was shut down. I want full life signs, radiation, and micro organism signs as well as any unusual energy readings. On holo." The display appeared above the desk in muted blues and greens with the data on each crew members life signs appearing in exquisite detail, Ensign Dunn was the exception as his cellular structure at beam in was in red, the variant life signs setting off the alarms which caused his secondary beaming into an isolated chamber. "Now let's see what we have here." Jared muttered. Shran raised his eyebrow "What was that sir, I didn't quite hear that" he said as he looked down the screen. (posted by Justin) (USS Paladin - Sickbay- CMO Lt. (jg) Jared Keller - 15:02) "What was that sir, I didn't quite hear that." Jared looked across the desk at the Andorian who was staring intently at the readout. "Look at these readings here," he pointed at those of Greg Dunn. "The DNA helix here is showing the signs of the presence of some sort of mutagen as the Rhybonucleic Acid is being oxidized." (Reply: Shran) "I'm not seeing any abnormal radiation or positive energy readings." Jared said as he leaned forward intently and began running through ambient background readings for the biohazard chamber. "And the bio signs show no evidence of an encroaching organism or advanced protein." (Reply: Shran) The half- Beatazoid placed his right hand over his chin and squinted as he leaned back in the chair, semmingly trying to penetrate the mystery by staring at a spot on the ceiling as he cudgeled his brain for an answer. "The charamethyzene gas halted the degredation of his system, we don't know for how long but before it wears off we need to find the cause or we'll not be able to affect a cure." (posted by Charles) (USS Paladin - Deck 7, CSO's Office - CSO/3O Lieutenant (jg) Joran Matthew Brownlee - 15:26) "That may be true. Let me cross-reference it with other known propulsion systems." After a few minutes, to Joran's great surprise, there was a similar system known to the Federation. "Have you seen this configuration before?" Joran asked. Rathyn looked it over a moment then nodded. "Old-style warp inducer module. That model is a hundred years old in Federation technology. Specific models varied somewhat but it was pretty standard in most warp-capable civilizations in the Alpha Quadrant: Romulans, Klingons, Orions. They stopped using it at the introduction of transwarp drive. The design doesn't match the alien ship exactly but I'm a little disappointed we didn't find something at least equal to our level of technology now." Then as an afterthought, "but appearances can be decieving. Any thoughts?" "It's not as much the level of technology I was referring to, but the resemblance to an antique El-Aurian system." Joran said, "And, due to the corrosion we observed compared to the schematics we found, I'd say that this ship has been adrift for at least 200 years." "No," Joran said, "Whatever secrets the El-Aurians have, they took them with them to their planet's grave." "They tend to be very closed mouth about thier past," Ensign Rathyn thought out loud, remembering the only El-Aurian she'd met as a young girl on the Federation's Bajoran outpost. She and others had gotten a bad first impression of that race from one man. "In fact, some of them tend to treat everyone else like intellectual and evolutionary inferiors." (Reply Brownlee) "Okay so we have a known ship design that is at least similar to the Antares encounter, which we are assuming, for the time being, came from the same people that built the larger ship we encountered." She leaned back in her chair and stretched her tired muscles. Pulling on her long blond hair, she tied it off in the back and eyed the viewer, intently. "Let's see if we have anymore similarities." (Reply Brownlee) "These look like a series of tachyon inhibitors, but I've never seen so many of them in one WI module," Rathyn said. "Their only purpose is to prevent unstable tachyon particles from causing an imbalance in the warp field." (Reply Brownlee) "There's a lot of hardware in this design directed at controlling tachyons," Rathyn said. "That must have been a major component or side-effect of their drive system." Ensign Dunn had excused himself. Their meeting was successful. The needed information was given and a plausible strategic plan was intact. However it was easier to say than it was to do, but the the First Officer was certain that it would work. Calvin and Elizabeth both were done eating, and they were finishing up their last sips of their drinks. "Well I need to write up a report to the Captain of our plan." "Ok," Elizabeth responded. But then she made a suggestion. "After you get done with that come by my place. I will be waiting." "I will be there as quick as I can." The two officers stood up and then went their separate ways. Besides, he was hungry. =^=Sure, sir. Do you want me to meet you in ten forward?=^= (posted by Ben) (USS Paladin – Ten Forward – CEO Steven Matrix – 21:51) =^= Very well, I'll see you in Ten Forward in 15 minutes? I'm buying. =^= Matrix closed the comm link and sat back in his chair and looked out of the Ten Forward observation window. He knew he hadn't spent nearly enough time getting to know his crew. Perhaps meeting Kyp in an informal setting would ease any tension and Kyp would open up a bit, be himself. Matrix was looking forward to the meeting and starting anew. One of the serving crew approached Matrix and pointed at his empty glass. Without either of them speaking Matrix nodded in agreement for another drink. He waited for Kyp to arrive... (posted by Steve) (USS Paladin - Ten Forward - ACEO Ensign (jg) Kyp Durron - 21.55) Kyp had just entered the Ten Forward and saw Matrix sitting at a table with his drink. Kyp had to admitt tha he was a little nervous about meeting him again, since this would be the first informal meeting that he would have with someone from the Paladin. He told a waiter to bring him a root beer (he wasn't in the mood for synthoal) and sat down by Matrix. "Good, evening sir. How was your day?) (reply Matrix) "So, what do you guys do for fun around here?" (posted by Ben) (USS Paladin - Ten Forward - CEO LT (jg) Steven Matrix - 21.55) "Ah, Ensign, please sit down..." Matrix sat up in his chair, "My day? Its not over yet. Its probably been no worse than yours." The waiter brought over the Ensign's root beer. Matrix smirked, then smiled. "Root beer? Do you have an aversion to liquor ensign?" (Reply Kyp) Matrix just smiled and polished off his glass of ale, and sat back in his chair. "So, what do you guys do for fun around here?" said the Ensign. Matrix laughed, "Fun? I don't know I haven't had the time for relaxation much on the Paladin. I should get around to programming a few holodeck adventures though." "So, Ensign, I wanted to take the time to properly meet with you in a non-formal setting, discuss things, get to know my crew, you better. Please feel free to talk freely." (Reply Kyp) "Oh, please order something if you're hungry...I'm buying. Really please order something if you'd like." (Reply Kyp) "Well, let me first apologize for not taking the time I should have been with you as well as the rest of the crew. I plan to meet with everyone individually and as a group to clear the air so to speak. Its time I get my butt in gear and get the department organized and running smoothly...not to say that you all aren't doing a great job. Just that I'm not doing such a great job. You and all of the engineering crew are doing a wonderful job." (Reply Kyp) Matrix waved over the waiter for the Ensign. "I do think I could do a much better job. I'm not making any excuses, but the away missions, etc. I think I need some help in the CEO seat. I've not done this before on a Starship. I was in charge of engineering on the Geneva. Things really do move much more quickly on a Starship. The dymanics here are much more interesting and challenging." - Matrix thought he was rambling a bit. "So, Ensign, I wanted to take the time to properly meet with you in a non-formal setting, discuss things, get to know my crew, you better. Please feel free to talk freely." “Well, I guess I’ll tell you a little about myself,” Kyp paused for a second to gather his thoughts. “I am from the same dimension as Captain Straton, I think. I am a good engineer and a really good pilot. I think of myself as calm and focused, but able to loosen up when necessary. I also seem to get along well with people.” As he finished, his stomach growled rather audibly. "Oh, please order something if you're hungry...I'm buying. Really please order something if you'd like." “Sure,” Kyp waved the waiter over. “I will have a spicy grilled catfish, a house salad, and a bowl of macaroni and cheese.” The waiter moved off to get his order. I’ll have to see what I can do to help him. ~ “Well, where do you want to start on dealing with engineering, after you become properly acquainted with the staff?” (posted by Ben) (USS Paladin – Deck 10 - Ten Forward - CEO Lt (jg) Steven Matrix - 21.56) So far the conversation had gone pretty much as he expected. Kyp was polite, professional and opening up. Kyp seemed relaxed. "First, I think a staff meeting is in order with all of the engineering offices. I'd like to get sense of how everyone feels about the current mission...a departmental status if you will." (Reply Kyp) "I need to seek with the first officer, perhaps at a departmental meeting, see if there are any requirements pending for engineering, new missions, etc., anything ship wide we need to know about." (Reply Kyp) "Ensign, is there anything you need from me at the moment, anything, resources, training?" (Reply Kyp) Matrix pondered Kyp's comments, "Anything at a departmental level that concerns you, things you think could be improved upon?" (posted by Steve) (USS Paladin – Deck 10 - Ten Forward - ACEO Ensign (jg) Kyp Durron - 21.57) So far the conversation had been pretty usual for co-workers who were meeting for the first time. Kyp had done his best to stay relaxed, yet professional, if such a thing were possible. But Kyp was a little wary about the Lt. He seemed distracted by personal issues that Kyp would not get into unless he was asked to. "First, I think a staff meeting is in order with all of the engineering offices. I'd like to get sense of how everyone feels about the current mission...a departmental status if you will," said Matrix “I think that would be good,” Kyp replied. “It would allow the department to centralize itself and work more efficiently.” "I need to seek with the first officer, perhaps at a departmental meeting, see if there are any requirements pending for engineering, new missions, etc., anything ship wide we need to know about." “Well, sir. The captain assigned the two of us to study the power loss problem experienced by the away teams on the alien ship and to find a way to counteract it. Based on the information I got from reading the reports, I think that they entered a different dimension or field where our technology doesn’t work. I think we should work on a way of utilizing whatever power source that the aliens use.” "Ensign, is there anything you need from me at the moment, anything, resources, training?" “Actually, yes, I would like to know how much workspace I will have in engineering. The two of us would need space to work in to solve this power loss problem.” Matrix pondered Kyp's comments, "Anything at a departmental level that concerns you, things you think could be improved upon?" “Right now, there are no problems that I know of. Like I said, I just arrived here today. The only problem I can see is that you were a little confused at first on how to handle engineering on a starship, but you seem to be taking the necessary steps to rectify that situation.” (reply Matrix) Kyp had finished eating his meal by now, “If that’s all, sir, I think I’m going to turn in for the night. I have had a very long day. You know this is funny,” he said with a little chuckle, “I go from dodging asteroids to discuss power failures in a ten-forward in one day. Such is the life of Starfleet.” (posted by Ben) (USS Paladin – Deck 10 - Ten Forward - CEO Lt (jg) Steve Matrix - 21.57) “Right now, there are no problems that I know of. Cmdr Capps and Ensign Knightley - 2200) Calvin walked down the corridor on the way to Elizabeths quarters. he really enjoyed having a romantic relationship with her. So far the two of them haven't been real serious. They simply talked and have had many dates. But tonight felt different. Something seemed to be in the air. He could not put his finger on it. He pushed the button on the door chime and nearly immediately after the two sliding doors hissed open. It was dark in the quarters, but after his eyes dilated and adjusted to the lack of light he could see a little bit more. He looked around unsure of what he was looking at, but then he could see a small hint of light coming from his right. He pivoted his body and started walking toward it. "Elizabeth?" He said as he walked closer and closer to the light. There was no answer, but he continued to walk. He knew that he was heading into her bedroom. He had only been in the bedroom once before, and that was when she was giving him the grand tour. Once he stepped into the room he saw her. She was lying on the bed horizontally compared to the bed. She was wearing an outfit that Calvin thought it looked sexy on her. "I am right her," she said finally. Calvin was surprised, but he knew that something was going on. He felt the time was right as well. The timing was perfect. He knelled to his knees and put his elbows on the bed. He gave Elizabeth the yellow rose that he had replicated only minutes ago. It might have been sweater to pick a real one, but using the replicator was just so much easier. Elizabeth was ready, she hoped Calvin would approve. She leaned over and gave him a passionate kiss on the lips. "I love you!" Elizabeth said for the first time. "I love you too!" Calvin said back for the first time as well. He then lyed on the bed with her and for the first time they made love. "Normally I would say yes," Eva said, "However, Lt. have you taken into consideration that we are in the middle of a war? I can no more predict the future than you can. There is no telling where the Paladin will be by that time, or what condition we might be in. We could very well be in the middle of a major battle, or worse. We can try for somewhere in that time frame, but please be advised that it may not happen then. I take it then you are planning on having the wedding here on the Paladin then?" "Well," Joran said, "that is why I'm talking to you about it. Since you are the captain, it falls to you to be the master of ceremonies.
